Dr. M. Shunmugavelu is a well-renowned Consultant Physician based in Tamil Nadu, South India. With a Master’s degree in General Medicine and boasting over 45 years of Professional expertise in Internal Medicine and Diabetology, he prioritizes providing exemplary Healthcare in his region. 

As the Chairman and Managing Director of Trichy Diabetes Specialty Centre (P) Ltd., a State-of-the-Art facility founded in 2005, he expertly oversees a dedicated Medical Team that provides high-quality Diabetes Care and personalized Patient Services round the Clock. Previously, Dr. Shunmugavelu made notable contributions to Government Medical Services, followed by an impactful tenure as a Physician at Trichy Specialty Hospitals until 2005. His meticulous Clinical experience and holistic strategies have made him a Beacon of Excellence in his domain.

His successful Academic pursuits led him to Prestigious positions from 2001 to 2005 as a Conjoint Overseas Faculty at the University of Newcastle, Australia and he has been a Regional Faculty Member with the Public Health Foundation of India, Specializing in Diabetes Management since 2010. His remarkable efforts have earned him immense respect and admiration from both Patients and Peers. Dr. Shunmugavelu is a distinguished Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow, the Indian College of Physicians and Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India.

Beyond his Clinical Practice, Dr. Shunmugavelu excels in the evolving Education and Research Landscape. With a strong Scientific Acumen and an enduring passion for Diabetes, he has played an active role in numerous National and International Clinical Trials.  His impressive scholarly contributions include serving on Expert Panels, Authoring Articles and Publications in reputable National and International Journals and contributing to prominent Books.

Dr. M. Shunmugavelu, with Four Decades of Professional Achievements, has received multiple Prestigious Awards, including “The Prof. Dr. Sam G.P. Moses Oration Award,” the “Dr. Arulrhaj Guest Lecture Award,” the “RSSDI 2015 Commemorating Oration Award,” the “Prof. Dr. V.T. Balaraman Oration Award,” the “Inspiring Diabetologists of India Award” from the Economic Times and the “Dr. M.S. Ashraf's Doctors’ Day Award” from the Indian Medical Association in Trichy, as well as the “Lifetime Achievement Dhronacharya Award” from the Diabetes Club of Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu.

Dr. Shunmugavelu has been a dedicated Member of various renowned Indian and International Academic Organizations, including Association of Physicians of India, Diabetes Association of India, Indian Medical Association, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India, American Diabetes Association, American College of Physicians and European Association for Study of Diabetes. His leadership also extends to the Editorial Board for Micro Laboratories and the Doctoral Committee for Ph.D. Scholars at SRM University.

Through his active engagement in Workshops, Awareness Campaigns, Seminars and Educational initiatives, Dr. Shunmugavelu effectively disseminates valuable knowledge to both the Public and Healthcare Professionals Statewide.  He further demonstrated his prominence as an invited Faculty Member, Keynote Speaker and Chairperson, presenting numerous Scientific Papers at Conferences over three decades.
